SPORT 4 – highly increased production in full swing
To fulfill the demand on our new Intermediate glider we had to boost production capacities in a big scale. This is now running great and large numbers of gliders are arriving twice a week. Delivery times are coming down !

SPORT 4 – also great for Paramotors
George Macak a professional test pilot for Paramotor wings test flew the Sport 4 with Paramotor „ Launch is smooth and steady, the climb rate is very good with nice Handing. The glide and sinkrate hands up with throttle down is exceptional good. A great glider when you want to combine Paramotor with thermal flying – and great fun“

SPORT 4 (class 1-2) high demand outstrips supply
Initial feedback from customers on the Sport4 has exceeded all our expectations. We have been literally inundated by orders and as a result the delivery time has gone up significantly.

The moment the Sport4 was certified we ordered as many stock gliders as possible but demand has been so high that all our stock sold immediately and we were getting backordered over 200 gliders at the worst point . We have already highly increased production capacities and the weighting list came down significantely. Do not miss out on the pleasure to fly this great glider and order as early as possible.

Using new technology fed down from our World Champion winning competition wings we managed to create an intermediate glider with siginficantely higher performance. Improved pitch and roll stability make this extra performance easy to use – it literally floats to the top of the stack with minimal inputs and glides away from the pack.

Airwave’s WORLDCHAMPION Sponsorship opportunity
Airwave has always been closely linked to competition sponsorship and success, and this close relationship was underlined when Bruce was crowned World paragliding Champion in Manilla. It is no coincidence that this makes an incredible seven times that Airwave has won the World Championships in both Hang gliding and Paragliding.

To consolidate this success Airwave would like to increase the strength of our competition team worldwide and encourage top pilots around the globe to fly Airwave in 2008.

Airwave has decided to make a special offer to National Paragliding Champions worldwide. If you are the official 2007 paragliding champion of your country, either male or female then Airwave would like to offer you our special ‘World Champion sponsorship opportunity’. We will offer any National Champion a 50% discount on the retail price of a new Airwave paraglider of your choice.

We are hoping that pilots will fly competition with their new Airwave wing in 2008 and enjoy the improved safety, handling and performance that our comes from our new wings. This offer applies to our compete range of wings, not just competition gliders, so you may want to get an acro wing, or a lightweight glider or even a speed riding wing as a second glider, so that you can enjoy paraglider from another related discipline.
This offer is valid for orders placed before the 15th March 2008, and must be justified with official documentation from the National Accociation to authenticate the claim.

Wishing you a great flying season for 2008.

ALPINE „THE Mountain Glider“ now certified
We are excited to announce the release of the ALPINE which recently passed certification in the sizes S, M and L. These are exciting new mountain gliders designed in the Austrian and French Alps for pilots who like to combine flying with a physical workout while enjoying nature when walking up to takeoff or combine Trekking with Flying.

The ALPINE is the ideal choice for the exciting Sport of ‘Para Trekking’, due to its convenient small size and light weight. It is also an ideal second glider, and does not get in your way when travelling or if you want to keep it tucked away permanently in your car for those unexpected flying occasions. It weighs only 3,9 kg in the medium size but due to ist 3rd generation Hybrid Sail we had it load tested to an amazing 1300kg which is exceptionally strong even for a standard glider.

The flight characteristics are forgiving so it can be happily flown by not so experienced pilots, besides this it is supereasy to take off and land and has a impressive performance

Another pilot who loves his FR 3
“Hi Bruce,

The FR3 is now in evidence in Brazil! At the end of the Brazilian it was obvious to be a special glider.

There is still a doubt of which one is the best pilot, but everybody now knows that the best glider is the FR3!

Double Dutch for Airwave at the British & Dutch Open 2007
Jolanda de Zeeuw and Marcel Bourgondien both won their National Dutch Paragliding titles last week in strong but perfect XC conditions in Saint André les Alpes. Five tasks where completed over a seven days event.
Marcel Bourgondien said about his Airwave Magic FR3; ‘to fly my glider in such strong conditions, for which St. André les Alpes is well known, worried me a bit at first but it turned out to be wonderful, how a high AR glider like this is so easy to handle in rough, sharp edged climbs up to 9 m/s just amazes me’.
Since Jolanda and Marcel are a couple they take home the men’s and women’s gold medal! Airwave would like to congratulate both of them for winning their national championships.
Besides winning the national title Jolanda did fly her Airwave Magic 4 to win the womens event of the British Open woman’s ranking in St. André also!

SLINGSHOT - the new ACRO
The SLINGSHOT is Airwaves latest acro wing following on from the successful BURN, BURN Extreme acro wings. This new acro wing is the most energetic and dynamic glider we have ever designed but still remains safe and stays open when other Acro gliders would be collapsing it is also the perfect step up from the BURN. The Slingshot offers more dynamic, reacts more directly and willingly to any steering inputs from
the pilot and is more agile in the overall handling. Special trimming and a new profile ensure the success of radically vertical manoeuvres it has the necessary pendulum effect for big tumbles, and the speed and energy for the rest. With the SLINGSHOT pilots can do all at present known acro-manoeuvres, whereas the advantages in the dynamics will take them to new levels of Acro flying.

GECKO – the new beginner glider
“THE TICKET TO THE FREEDOM OF THE SKIES”

The early days in the sport are for every pilot in many ways the most important. This is why dedicated so much time to developing a new, better beginner glider incorporating all the paraglider design technology available today. Even features we learned and built into the World Champion gliders
were used in the Gecko. This makes the Gecko to an extremely safe and easy to fly wing which performs nicely and is always fun to fly. Also only the best and highest quality materials which are available today were used. The Gecko
has a hybrid sail which is stronger, more UV resistant but also lighter than other gliders of its class. The Gecko has passed the new stringent CEN tests, the strictest level of certification currently in existence (23A,1B).

A Moral Victory for Innes
Innes Powell just lost the British Open in Piedraheita flying his FR3-28. Innes outflew the whole field and would have won the competition with a lead of over 100 points had he not had a GPS error on the best task of the event.
The task was the 2nd task which was a 154km flight to goal to the football pitch in Arcones. Innes got to goal 15 minutes ahead of the rest of the field and landed in the football pitch highly elated at his victory. However the GPS coordinates of the goal were not the football pitch itself but were 416m from the football pitch, meaning that Innes was not awarded the goal, because he did not cross the 400m line even though he had tons of height to be able to do so. This lost him the competition and he finished 9th instead.
Congratultion to Innes for his great flying, and his moral victory.

Airwave WORLD CHAMPIONS again!
Congratulations to Matjaz Feraric for his first place at the "Paragliding Accuracy World Championships" flying an Airwave WAVE and to Rafael Kerin for his second place on a SPORT.

Airwave gliders are designed to handle very well at slow speeds with good handling at low speeds and plenty of warning before the stall. The stall speed of the Wave is exceptionally low at just 20km/h. These forgiving flying characteristics are exactly the features that make the Wave an extremely good glider both for low airtime pilots as well as for professionals in accuracy flying.

In addition to pilots flying Airwave gliders getting first and second places at the World Championships, AIRWAVE gliders are also ranked first and second place in the PAWC (Paragliding Accuracy World Cup).

Airwave would like to congratulations all pilots for their excellent achievements.

ALPINE EXTREME
The mountainglider with no compromises

The ALPINE EXTREME weighing only 2,7 kg with high speed and fast handling is the ideal glider for pilots who want the llightest equipment possible combined with good penetration against the wind. With only 17,6 m2 (15,5 projected) it requires an experienced pilot when flown in the higher weight range. This makes it one of the lightest real mountain gliders on the market today. The ALPINE EXTREME is easy to launch with a short take-off even in nil wind conditions.

For pilots with only 40 – 60 kg the ALPINE EXTREME is ideal even for training or as an easy intermediate glider. However we are not planning to certify the ALPINE EXTREME unless there is a huge demand for this wing.

We are working on the ALPINE which will be a more conservative mountain glider, easy to fly (also for heavy pilots) but still very light weight. The standard ALPINE will be certified.

FR 3 – performs like a hang glider ?!
Kelly Farina received his new FR3 a few weeks ago.
He recently started using “Seeyou” for flight analysis software and entered his first
XC flight in the Zillertal valley. However when he uploaded the
track to Seeyou it put him as a hang glider! He emailed Andrej from Seeyou and
he said
"You must have flown too fast and SeeYou thought you were in a Hang
glider ".

Now he has to manually enter himself as a paraglider each time he uploads a flight to Seeyou ?

Igor – FR3 Breaks the Macedonian Open XC record
Igor Todevski takes up the story:
’I broke old Macedonian record, which was 98km. and the new one is around 150km.
This was the hardest xc flight in my country(the most inhospitable environment) and many national and international pilots has tryed before...no one made it.
This was my 3th flight on my FR3 and I have to say that the glider is crazy.
And on the end I have to mention that I have to stop my flight because there was border with Albania and this is max that someone can go in Macedonia.
I started my flight from Skopje the capitol of Macedonia and finished on the end of Ohrid lake. Unfortunately there was the border with Albania and I had to go for a landing, although the sky was still crowded with nice clouds.
On the way I had few problems with Bruce Lee Side because of the periodically strong wind and a big mountains that I had to jump.
I had a big problem with low temperatures and frozen fingers.
One problem with nowhere to lend, but fortunately I found good thermal to get me out of there. Just to mention it was a national park with a lot of wild animals inside.
After this my FR3 was going nice and smooth in very strong and narrow thermals.
...and that was my flight...’

FR3 on top in strong conditions at Bassano.
Bassano is the first major European paragliding competition every year. This year it was held on the 7-9th April and 3 great tasks were completed in the three days, and an impressive 250 competitors, 100 on hang gliders and 150 on paragliders.
Conditions were strong racing conditions with strong wind on the second day as well. In fact the conditions were the exact opposite of the conditions in Australia at the World Championships.
Bruce Goldsmith won the best and final task of 80km with a full 40 seconds ahead of Christian Biasi who just took the overall event from Bruce in second place. Congatulations to both pilots.
At Airwave we are particularly happy that this shows the FR3 performs equally well in strong as well as weak condition.

AIRWAVE IS NEW WORLD CHAMPION
Congratulations to Bruce Goldsmith for becoming World Champion at the World Paragliding Championships 2007 which just finished in Manilla, Australia. Further congratulations to Harmony Gaw who got 3rd in the womans ranking on her Magic 4.

Five tough xc tasks were flown over the two weeks of the event and Bruce won by being the only pilot out of the 150 competitors to get to goal every single day.

This is the first time that a paraglider pilot has won a World Championships on a glider he has designed himself. The FR3 that Bruce was flying is actually the standard model, not a special proto and the exceptional performance of this wing certainly helped Bruce on the way to victory. Ideas that often spring from the competition wings influence the complete Airwave range, from school glider to tandem, producing a range of Airwave gliders that always strive to break new ground. That is why success at top level means more than just success at top level.

EASY Speed Riding gliders - SKIMA
Airwave is now launching a range of speed riding gliders in 3 sizes, 10, 13 and 16 sq m. The 16 size is espescially designed as an easy speed riding glider, which can be easily footlaunched as well, making this the perfect introduction to speed riding. As it is small and lightweight it can also be used as a mountain glider. Even the standard version wieghts in at just 3,2 kg (around 2 kg in the light cloth version), and with possible double use this glider is creating a lot of interest. The Skima is already load tested.

Mustang 2 - Light

Soon after the certification of the Mustang2 we had some requests from pilots to make a Mustang2 Light. This glider is made entirely from Porcher cloth with a hybrid sail using the new very lightweight 27gm porcher for the main sail and with a hybrid leading edge using 40gm cloth for the first colour on the top surface. Microlines and light weight risers bring the overall weight of this glider down from 6kg in the standard configuration to just over 4kg in the lightweight version. Currently the Mustang2 light is sold uncertified, but if demand proves strong Airwave will consider certifying this wing.

Furthermore we consider a Sport-3 Light Version

MUSTANG 2 released - designed for adventure

The Mustang2 has now passed the DHV2 certification in 3 sizes, S,M and L. The Mustang2 shares the same dynamic handling and feel as the original Mustang, but now has better performance in every part of the flight envelope
The glider is more floaty at low speeds with a lower stall speed and lower sink rate. At top speed the wing is more stable. The best glide is also better with less lines and thinner diameters used thoughout the wing.
Despite the thinner lines the Mustang2 acheived a top load of 8 x 186kg in the load test, which represents 12.5g for the Large !!

Airwave Burn – Extreme Fun with long durability
Airwave´s Test- and Freestylepilot Chris Geist has measured his Burn after one year of hard flying. With an outstanding result: Despite the hard use, the trimming of the glider was exactly the same as the original Burn. This is a fantastic result for a Freestyle wing and is a sign for Airwave´s great production quality and choice of the used materials.

Chris: „ We wanted to make a freestyle wing, which is also for the less experienced freestyle beginner. The Burn will not overstrain the pilot to much. We also wanted a wing, that lasts longer than other freestyle wings, cause not every pilot has the money to buy a new set of lines after a short time.“

Airwave although recommends, to check the glider after one year at Airwave/ Stubaital or a Airwave Offical Checkcenter.

Victory for Steve Ham on his Magic4.
Steve Ham flew his Magic4 to win the serial class of the British Open in Wales last weekend.
The conditions were very weak with two tasks completed over the four day event in largely grey skies and light winds, but on both tasks Steve made it to goal with an excellent time. The goal on the second day was the impressive Raglan castle and the photo shows Adrian Thomas crossing the goal line on his Magic FR2.
Steve Ham took 1st place in the serial class and 2nd place in the overall scoring flying a completely standard Magic4. It was actually the same wing that he won the Serial Class of the Pre-worlds in Manilla, Australia earlier this year.
Airwave would like to congratulate Steve for his impressive performance.

In the french magazine ´´Vol Libre´´ the well respected and independent glider
reviewer Noel Betrand wrote a detailed test report about the Sport3.

Magic4 wins the Pre-Worlds Serial Class
Magic4 wins the Pre-Worlds.

Congratulations to Steve Ham, David Chaumet and Mike Aston for their great performances on Airwave gliders at the Pre-worlds in Australia.
Steve Ham won the Serial Class on his standard Magic4 medium. David Chaumet came 2nd in the Open Class flying a Magic FR2-21.5.
Mike Aston won the first task of the Pre-Worlds on the Magic 4.
This is an astounding acheivement especially considering we only had two Magic4's flying in the competition.

Steve Ham said about his Magic4 'I have never happily used the speed range on a glider like i have on this one, so am confident of the stability of it.'
Mike Aston said 'I am very pleased with the Magic 4. I was very stable at speed, I never had a front collapse and it only buckled in the centre slightly and with plenty of time to let off the speed bar. The thermalling is precise and effective. At trim speed the glide was equal to all the comp wings but at full speed the proto's had the edge.'

Magic4 at the Pre-Worlds!
The first production of Magic4 mediums have rolled off the production line, and two have been snapped up by pilots of the British National Team, to fly with at the Pre-worlds in Manilla in Australia.

Steve Ham, who lives in Piedraheita, moved from a competition glider to the Magic4 because it gave the same performance with a higher level of safety. Mike Aston is the other British Team member to choose a Magic4 for the Pre-Worlds and we wish them both the best of luck.

New size Magic4 = ML
During the test flying of the Medium and the Large Magic4's in Gourdon we found that the wing felt the nicest when it is flown in the top half of the weight range.

Our testpilots found, that they could happily fly the Medium or the Small, however the same could not be said of the Medium and the Large. We found that there was a significant weight range where the glider did not give the optimum feel. For this reason we have decided to release a fourth size of the Magic4, the ML.

The ML will be best flown in the weight range of 105-115kg and should suit many pilots with a body weight of 80-90kg. The ML is expected to be certified in March 2006, with the first production gliders being available in April.

Cross Country recently reviewed the glider and concluded 'A great balancing act between fun and XC performance. If you cannot get to the top of the stack on this wing you need to get some training in'.
The Sport3 is as popular with paramotor pilots as the Sport2 and is also available with paramotor risers with trimmers which has DULV certification.

The Magic4 M has passes DHV flight tests!
The Magic4 medium has just passed the DHV flight tests in Roquebrune at the combined DHV/SHV flight test session. The Magic4 is the first true "3 line glider" ever to be certified by the DHV and the Medium easily passed DHV2/3. We will be introducing the Magic4 at the Stubai-Cup 2006, where the amazing glide and performance at speed will be on show.

It sets the new standard for DHV 2-3 gliders in performance, safety and handling and is the only DHV 2-3 glider with just 3 rows of lines all the way from the glider down to the risers. This gives the glider a significant boost in performance, especially at speed.

The Magic4 includes many of the technical innovations from the FR2, our successful competition glider.

The new Magic 4
The Airwave R&D team has been working like crazy on the new Magic4 for the last year, and this design project is now nearing completion. We have tried several different design concepts using input from the Magic FR2 as well as some completely new design features, and the results have produced some very exciting new gliders.

Our three pronged approach to design has been at the core of the Magic 4 project.

The use of full scale testing, theoretical modelling (CFD, performance calculater and Aerofoil design programs), and verification using wind tunnel testing.

Our new 3D model of the wing including the accurate inflation of every single panel of the glider has been analysed in the CFD analysis program giving ever more accurate results.

We are getting close to certification now and with a wing that has a very good level of safety as well as top end performance.

We look forward to introduce you the new Magic 4 on the Stubai-Cup 2006 in January.
